Sponsorship Application
Purpose:
To encourage and recognise Rangitāne uri promoting Rangitānetanga, youth development programmes, Te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga, and events that promote the wellbeing of Rangitāne whānau and hapū. Funding supports genuine representative participation in sanctioned sporting, cultural, or other events at regional, national, or international levels.
Funding Streams
To better support a range of kaupapa, ROMST offers two separate funding streams:
Sponsorship Fund
Supports individuals and small rōpū representing Rangitāne in sanctioned sporting, cultural, educational, or other representative events at regional, national, or international level. Funding is intended to assist with participation costs for selected representatives.
Event Fund
Supports the delivery of larger one off events, programmes, or initiatives that provide a direct benefit to Rangitāne whānau, hapū, or the wider community. Funding is intended for organisers delivering kaupapa, rather than individuals attending or competing in an event.
Applicants should apply to the funding stream that best matches the purpose of their request. Applications submitted to the incorrect funding stream may be deemed ineligible.
Criteria:
Applicants must:
- Be of Rangitāne descent and a registered beneficiary of the Rangitāne o Manawatū Settlement Trust (ROMST) database.
- Submit the official ‘Sponsorship Application Form’ to the Board Administrator at least four (4) weeks prior (within reason) to the event.
- For roopū/team applications, ensure that 50% or more of participants are registered ROMST uri.
- Be formally selected to compete as a Regional or National Representative in an event sanctioned by a recognised governing body for that sport or cultural discipline.
- Provide evidence of formal selection (e.g. official letter, email, or public announcement from the recognised national governing body).
- Each roopū may only receive one sponsorship allocation in any rolling 12-month period, regardless of the kaupapa, event, or competition.
Definition of Representative Status:
For the purposes of this policy, a “Regional Representative” or “National Representative” is one selected by an official, recognised national governing body through an official selection process.
This excludes self-selected or invitational participation where attendance is organised independently, including overseas showcases, festivals, or performances not tied to a sanctioned representative pathway.
Restrictions Across Funds:
- A single kaupapa may only receive funding through one funding stream.
- Applicants cannot seek support for different components of the same kaupapa (for example, travel through one fund and uniforms through another).
- If an application is declined or found ineligible under one funding stream, the same kaupapa cannot be resubmitted under the other funding stream.
- Individuals who receive Sponsorship Funding are not eligible to receive Event Funding within the same rolling 12 month period, and vice versa.
- Each kaupapa may only receive one allocation from either the Sponsorship Fund or the Event Fund within any rolling 12 month period.
Funding Limits:
Individual:
Regional Rep at National Event – up to $100
Regional Rep at International Event – up to $200
National Rep at International Event – up to $500
Events:
Applications for event funding will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Other:
Other activities can be considered that are not listed above to be decided at the discretion of the Trustees.
