Te Tapuwae o Rangi -
Whānau tangihanga services
Te Tapuwae o Rangi is an Iwi-Led, kaupapa Māori initiative that supports whānau through
the journey of death, tangihanga, and grief. We seek to provide whānau with deeper knowledge, tikanga, and important support alongside resources to tautoko the whānau pani, before, during and after these hardest of moments.

The tohu of Te Tapuwae o Rangi represents the sacred journey between Te Ao Kikokiko and Te Ao Wairua.
The upper form, Te Tihi o Rangi, reflects the realm of Ranginui, the place to which the wairua ascends. Below, Te Papa o te Ao anchors us in Papatūānuku, the physical world where love, grief, and memory are held.
Between these realms lies Te Pae, the threshold, a sacred space of transition. Here, the journey is not seen as an end, but as a continuation. A crossing.
Flowing throughout the tohu are Ngā Ia, the currents that carry the wairua. These lines reflect the movement of whakapapa, the enduring presence of those who have gone before, and the ongoing connection between worlds.
The colours within the tohu speak to both life and sacredness, the grounding essence of the whenua, and the divine nature of the journey home.
Te Tapuwae o Rangi exists to honour this passage; to guide, to uphold tikanga, and to remind us that mate is not a transaction, but a transition.
A return.
A remembering.
A continuation of the sacred journey.
