Pou toi -
he aho tangata
He Aho Tangata is an inter-disciplinary collective grounded in the idea that people, like threads, are strongest when woven together. Bringing together weavers, digital and contemporary artists, graphic designers, and expert carvers, the collective creates space for collaboration across disciplines and generations. At its core, He Aho Tangata exists to champion our Toi Rangitāne, uplift our artforms and artists, and assert our presence on our whenua through creative expression.

our engagement process
Contact
Make initial contact with our He Aho Tangata facilitator (Māhina Scott-Kawana) through the start a comission button below. This can be a rough idea, or a detailed brief, whatever stage you're at is the right stage to contact us
Artist Procurement
Our facilitator will table your comission with He Aho Tangata, at which time an appropriate artist will be assigned to undertake the mahi, and liasion between yourself and the artist will begin. By this stage, our artists require a budget and timeframe to make an informed decision.
Alignment & Artist Liasion
Here, you will begin to speak directly with the artists, giving them your vision and direction. During this process, how much influence you have over the design is mostly up to you, though please keep in mind our artists will each have their own flair and vision for bringing your ideas to life! So feel free to ask the artist to incorporate specific elements, or let the artists create at their own will, whatever works for your organisation.
Installation
Our artists have a preference for the comissioning organisation to facilitate installation of their taonga, allowing our artists to focus solely on creating the works to the best of their ability. If, however, you do need help procuring an engineer or builder, we do have established connections we regularly use, and are happy to put you in contact with them, just let us know. PLEASE NOTE: installation cost is SEPERATE from the artists labour/materials and is NOT to be included in any budget given to the artists. Any budget given to the artists is solely to describe the cost of labour and materials used in the creation of your comission. Budget and costing for installation is to be handled internally by the organisation commisioning the work.
